Heart and Soul Method is a movement method. It is a way to exercise. Sun, heating yoga asanas into dance movement into moon cooling postures into savasana, ending in tridoshic breathwork. Fitness Fusion is sprinkled in through out the class. It is practiced as a wellness maintenance regimen.
The therapeutic breath work while moving through hatha vinyasa flow is a moving meditation. It also keeps inflammation in at bay while balancing the elements of our human system in deep penetrating vectors. This is why yoga is so powerful. Adding dance movement in the middle of class takes the movement meditation, then, to another level, exploding debris from our energy fields. An advanced class will do more of that then a beginning class. This keeps the mind on its toes, builds wisdom, and regulates energy control as well as flow. Just sitting in meditation cleansing with spirit does not work because we are made of flesh. A car will rust over time if it is not driven, oiled properly or maintained… the same for our bodies. Running is great, but is it creating strength AND flexibility? mmm, not really. Pounding joints on pavement and over working joints with weights is not building better health, it’s too much force on the system, which, overtime will wear out joints.
About 8 years ago, I was feeling really depressed, stagnant, and as if the dreams I had for my life would not be fulfilled. The motivation, inspiration, and wellbeing was not flowing through me to move forward on my path. For me, movement has always been a go to for healing and letting go of any negative feelings or stress. I grew up as a dancer, an actress, and yoga practitioner as well as teacher, so the studio space feels like a fun, safe, healthy place to me. It really does feel like home. Almost like a place of refuge where I always feel most like myself. My method reflects this passion as well as the blood, sweat, and tears I have put into it. The design yields results safe for the body over time. I’m 40 and dancing, moving like a 25 year old… it works. I have been practicing it for 10 years.
Creating this method, practicing it 4-5 times a week, pulled me out of the biggest storm of my entire life. The dark night of my soul was released through the body, breath, music, and movement within’ this method. It seems truly special to bring these three movement modalities together in particular in the vibe in which it is practiced on the mat in the studio. It is exercise, but it will also transform the negative stuck feeling into a more open, regenerative, flowing feeling which permeates more sweetness into our lives. This has been my experience and as I have seen with the groups of students/clients I have worked with on the West and East coasts.
What I love about having progressive level classes is that practitioners are challenged, but they also have a curriculum that can become familiar. Building a strong foundation in different movement modalities brings about a confidence within the different layers of our being. Learning over longer periods of time gives a much deeper, healthier result by learning to embody movement with our own presence. You have to do the work and practice to earn steady and consistent progression in this movement method. This is a better way.
Practicing Heart and Soul Method also is something fun to do with a friend. I always look forward to waking up and going to a yoga or movement or dance class in the morning. Approach it as a way to exercise, moving into better wellness. Other gems will be uncovered along the way.
